In US. trying to learn about Ireland and its issues these days. I found the poetry of Gerry O’Neill, which led here. Are people in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland interested in re-learning this language? Long ago I met someone from Northern Ireland, who told me about what was happening there. I did not know Ireland is now officially broken into two sections. Where N. Ireland is part of the UK and the Republic of Ireland is part of the EU. I also just learned how voting works in Ireland—by appointed councillors. So leaders are appointed not elected by public vote. is land ownership by the people? If you buy land, is it yours to pass to your children? Do the previous generations pass land to their children? Does land ownership impact the access to be a councilor who can vote in elections? Sorry for all the questions. But in my area of the US we have been in danger of losing everything, because of the ways our courts are taken over and controlled. It is getting better since the Nov election. And someone told me Ireland is having similar problems. happy to see the Gaelic teaching… important.

The Gaelic language revival has been spearheaded by nationalists in the North. Belfast is a city now teeming with Ghaeilig speakers. As regards all the rest of what you ask just think of it like this. Ireland’s government are like an occupational one serving the needs of outsiders, the state itself is a vassal for multinational corporations who impose DEI quotas leading to an imported workforce who are also prioritised for housing ahead of the native Irish, this is called ‘Housing for All’ but it really means, the Irish are skipped and left at the back of the queue.

Thanks very much for your response. I read through some of your other posts, and was inspired by what I read. The person I met long ago, (in 1973), was from Belfast and his last name was Savage. He was crew on a passenger ship named the Arcadia, for the P&O lines. Oddly, being from Seattle, we had a very unstructured education system for high school, and I had been given an assignment to research events in Northern Ireland at that time. So meeting my friend after this, whose family were involved in these events was a very meaningful experience for me. Since 2013, but increasing 2020-2025, in Seattle, our city came under siege, and the entire judicial system fell into the hands of those who wished to see the city and in fact the entire state destroyed. We are a port city to Asia, with a border to Canada. This has also made us subject to bad actors. My years as an adult, included a time teaching at a University, where I witnessed some things where I had to stand up. This came naturally to me. Perhaps because of my father, who was a journalist who always stood for what he felt was right. And perhaps because of what I learned about Ireland. But by 2020, I knew what was happening in Seattle was wrong and was not what we were being told. On my X (Twitter) stream this year, there were people who were saying Ireland had fallen and would never recover. I just could not believe this would happen effortlessly, as they were saying. Then the same person went to Ireland this past month and came back with stories of spirit and life in Ireland, showing this was not true. And I can see, from what I have read here and elsewhere, that it is not true. I was so grateful. I had posted in my X account the past few days of interviews from writers who expressed so well, their love of Ireland in the midst of the forced migration events. I called out those in Seattle, to take notice. And then, today, as if an unexpected fracture in the oppression had occurred, there was an event, where those who are normally silent, stood up! And someone said the Whitehouse took notice, and that the Federal Agencies were going to investigate the attacks by our Mayor on those who stood up against the infiltrators, (who were Christian), where previously such attacks were ignored! This was a miracle. They are going to investigate the corrupt in our government in Seattle, and so likely our corrupted Judicial system too. All across the country, everyone in politics had previously said my state was lost. That we should be written off. Just as they were saying about Ireland. But it wasn’t true! We had constantly been told to leave Seattle, that it was soon to explode in violence. But I knew one does not run away from your city you love, where generations of your family have lived and died. So I chose to stand as best I could. But it was words from the Irish, which occurred, just before this pivot. I have always known, since I met Mr Savage long ago, and read about Belfast in those long ago days, that one persists in standing for the land one loves—and good will come from this. I hope Ireland remains Ireland, for the Irish who have been there and built her, for thousands of years. It is a small piece of land, but there are great people there, and always have been. And I truly believe that it is people like yourself, and the others whose writing I have read recently, and who I have met in the past, are beacons for the rest of us, facing our own oppression. So thank-you for continuing to protect your land. Blessings to all of you. There are images of the events on my X feed of today’s events: @Marta_Lyall on X. And again, I know learning and speaking Gaelic is important during these times, for those in Ireland. I wish we had a shared ancient language of our land, in the US. I know we could borrow or construct one, but it would, not be the same. When a language emerges from the land through the people, it is the land speaking…
