Saw this years ago & it resonated.

I’m not an Irish speaker - I grew up within the British education system in the north, but I see the value of it in recreating in the Irish a sense of true nationhood.

Why else was it so important for the British to take it from the Irish - as they did the Scots & the Welsh? They knew the power of the spoken word & used their English language as a weapon of colonialism.

I hope Stephen’s initiative goes from strength to strength.

It was beaten in to us like times tables - ensuring we avoided it thereafter like the plague. Only officialdom & shinners used it & the odd fanatic which further drove the stake firmly in to its heart.

I love the Irish language Stephen. I unfortunately cannot speak it. I did learn in school, many years ago but not very well.

I am inspired after reading this to start learning again.

All are welcome to tag along I’m not a fluent speaker either but plan to be by next year. I was surprised by how well I held my own with the Gaeilgeoirí in the group. I was able to understand most of what they were saying. I want to grow this apolitical movement so please come to the next one. It was a great bit of fun.

Día dhíbh a cháirde Gael, conas atá sibh inniú? Táim ar fheabhas. Tá an aimsear go dona annseo so Spáinn. Tá se ag stealladh baistí le gaoth láidir. Bhí stoirm mór athréar. Bhí toirneach agus tintreach i rith na hoiche. Tá na tonnta go hárd ar an trá

Glad ye all had a wonderful and spiritual time. You have great intent Stephen and you give inspiration. You're a true Gael with your heritage from your inner city childhood and music. Perfect for now. Teamhair na Rí a perfect place to meet up. I won't say what the stone looks like 😜but I think it comes from the Pharoahs, it's like a small oblisk. They put them everywhere. I could be wrong about this. I'm researching. There's even a mini oblisk in the carpark in this town. They're telling us they're still in charge

We need to embrace the language, I’m convinced it’s the key component that’s been lacking.

Beidh sé deachair agus beidh sé obair chrua, ach beidh sé fiú é, ag deireadh an lae.

It will be difficult and it will be hard work but it will be worth at end of the day (in the end)

A nationalist movement is incomplete without a national language.
